I have been visiting the disabled peoples home, Sambody, a few times this week and really enjoy it and being with the people there, we are still able to communicate somehow!! I found a girl who speaks quite good english and she teaches me a little singhala, then the others laugh at me!!! but its great fun.
Other than that, earlier on in the week, Murray took
me to two schools, which he used to be involved in, one a rather well financed one and the other a little more simple. Kogola school and the school
in Bussa both have the problem that the students who go are very poor. Both schools have a feeding program which is good because most of the children only have one meal a day in the evening and so they are not quite energized for spending a whole day at school. The school in Bussa surprised me as it has a very organised coloured ecycling system, and even compost bins!!
i was able to meet up with a dutch girl my age who is working in the school in Bussa, it seems as though that she is the first person that i help in Sri Lanka, and share God with here!!
I decided to walk to Gaulle, in the end i just did a little over 2kms as it was in the baking
sun, for exercize, and it was to meet up with a woman who works with Malteser child protection.....she is very nice, married to a dutch man. She just rang me to say that she will arrange a me
eting with her and her staff so that i can just see how the organisation works and what they do and so on, so that is really great because she was quite straight with me when we met that i would find it very difficult if not impossible to work with any Ngo here or voluntary organisation as i have
nt got the right VISA so its nice of her to still help me around a little!!! So that is for next week!
I have also been writing letters finally to the contacts that were given to me before i left Wales and so i hope that they will write back or ring!! that is quite exciting!!
I had my first big spider in the cabana...in my bathroom...but i had gone for dinner with Anna and this other bloke, and she came in to use the toilet and so she found it, not me, twas huge...but i asked him kindly to take it out, and after five minutes, him on all fours on the bathroom floor...the spider was taken out....i would have just killed it myself...but i dont have a broom at the moment and im not getting close to those monsters....!! but i am getting used to the bugs, honest...i still live with some geccos, and i watch the huge monataur lizards in the gardens, on my way here i also saw one, and squirrels too!!
i
had dinner with Anna and a very rich man yesterday, he lives in the 'White House 'and its his grandfather who founded the school in Bussa, and he is a very nice relaxed man!!! its quite funny really! so i am slowly getting out a little bit!! iwas even double booked yesterday, which usually never happens anyway, so that made me quite happy!!!!!
So that is a just a little update really. Shall use this opportunity to put some photos on for you!!
